Community and Employer Development Certificate Program

Rob Hoffman, Director of the Community and Employer Development Program, will be the primary instructor and mentor.

Three courses comprise the program and are targeted to Job Developers, Employment Specialists, Managers/Supervisors, Marketing Personnel, Transition Personnel, State Agency Personnel. The courses are:

  • Business Partnership Strategies
  • Marketing and Job Development
  • Customized Employment

Business Partnership Strategies

This one-and-a-half-day course is designed to support the development of partnerships between community employment providers and the business community. Participants will gain an understanding of strategies to implement employer development activities to strengthen their position as a trusted and reliable resource to meet the human resource needs of the business community.

National ACRE Certificate Program ApprovedCredit Hours

This course offers 12 credit hours toward the National ACRE Professional Certificate, 12 contact hours toward CEC, and 12 credit hours for CRCs

Topics will include:

  • Understanding the Business Partnership Paradigm
  • Understanding the need to develop business partnerships
  • Understanding the issues employers have with our current practices and developing strategies to change and enhance these practices
  • Developing educational services to support businesses
  • Developing human resource outreach initiatives
  • Developing business management teams
  • Implementing employer development strategies
  • Learning creative ways to get candidates in the door
  • Becoming a sought after resource to business and human resource managers

Marketing and Employer Developmentt

This one-and-a-half-day course is designed to support community employment providers to develop strategic/creative marketing plans and implement best practices in job development to promote their employment agency and increase employment outcomes for persons with disabilities.

  • Marketing vs. Job Development
  • Identifying Customers and Their Needs
  • Developing and Implementing Effective Marketing Plans
  • Conveying Clear and Concise Messages to our Customers
  • Creating Employer Portfolios
  • Best Practices in Job Development (Person Directed/Agency Directed)
  • Creative Ways to Get Candidates in the Door
  • Changing the Way We Do Business to Meet Our Customers Needs

Customized Employment

Designed to expand upon Marketing and Job Development, this one-and-a-half-day advanced course will focus on strategies to support employment professionals to implement customized employment opportunities. Customized Employment is a process of individualizing the employment relationship between employees and employers in ways that meet the needs of both. It is based on a match between the unique strengths, needs, and interests of the individual, and the identified needs of the employer.

  • Defining Employment or, Maybe More Appropriately-Redefining Employment

  • Creating a Blue Print for Job Development
  • Strategies to Customize Employment: Job Carving, Job Restructuring, Job Creation, Self-Employment/Business Ownership
  • Negotiating Win-Win Solutions with the Employer
  • Resource Development and Funding
